About FOOGS.org
Based in Austin, Texas FOOGS.org was started to help foster the sense of community and connection that comes with growing your own food and sharing with your neighbors. Foogs.org is a FREE social networking website where you will find friends and members sharing their knowledge and experiences, encouraging YOU to participate in anyway possible that fits your level of interest.
In 2010 we plan to launch the FOOGS Marketplace. Imagine a website where the farmers market meets the internet. The marketplace is where members will be able to locate and connect with other members in order to share and barter their handmade and homegrown goods. We will also provide a FOOGS certification program for members to connect with local food establishments to barter their homegrown goods.
The Question is: "Now that FOOGS is here, what can I expect and what can I do?" Since FOOGS is continually evolving, here is where you can start.
JOIN OUR FREE SITE as a member and visit the discussion boards, blogs, kids' corner, etc. The most common theme among members so far is "I want to garden, but don't know how". There are many people on this site that know how to garden in small residential and urban spaces and they want to help, so please reach out and ask them for assistance. The purpose here is to grow a community of people and a resource to help each other achieve these goals, so post those pictures make a video, write a blog and share with others.
TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS - Please visit the Forum section and check out “Your Garden Buddy” by Tom Butler, where we have articles ranging from planting a fall garden to step-by-step instructions on starting a kid's garden, community resources, to raising backyard chickens. Whatever your level of interest may be we’ll have something for you. In fact, you might just find that you and your neighbors have much more in common than a fence line.
START A GARDEN! There is SO much happening with FOOGS right now it is hard to keep up but once you are ready, start a garden, grow fresh food, and share with your neighbors. The kids will love the experience; meet new neighbors, you’ll add value to your community and you will enhance your life and health.
