Gardening Guidance Needed at Jose Riojas Elementary

Hi All,

 

My Daughter attends Jose Riojas Elementary in Pflugerville, and I am excited to learn that their Community Service Club is about to undertake a gardening project.  As a matter of fact, there are many exciting things going on there.

 

I was excited to learn last month that PISD is now offering healthier school lunches, but I was equally impressed to learn that the food waste is now being composted on site, and that they will be using this compost in school gardens.  My understanding is that the vegetables grown in these gardens will be sold by the students to raise money to send care packages to troops overseas.

 

This effort is being carried forward by Stephanie Kapsa, the school's music teacher, who has taken the initiative to lead the Community Service Club.  Ms. Kapsa can be contacted at [e-mail].

 

If anyone is so inclined, she would be very interested in being contacted by someone who would be willing to offer some inital guidance or come out and speak to the students about gardening and composting.
