Hi!
Welcome to FOOGS.ORG - For Our Own Goods - If you are reading this, I have to presume you have at least a passing interest in growing, raising or consuming your own local organic food. The reason I started this site is because I want to help foster the sense of community and connection that comes with growing your own food and also sharing with your neighbors. The Question is: "Now that I am here, what can I expect and what do I do?" Great Question and since this site is continually evolving, here is the answer as we know it so far:
1 - PARTICIPATE in the discussion boards, blogs, kids' corner, etc. I think the most common theme among members so far is "I want to garden, but don't know how". Fear not. There are many people on this site that know how to garden in small residential and urban spaces and they want to help, so please reach out and ask them for assistance. The purpose here is to grow a community of people and a resource to help each other achieve these goals, so post those pictures, make a video and post it if you are so inclined. I will be hosting some photo contests for cash prizes very soon!
2- KEEP TALKING ABOUT US, STAY CONNECTED TO US AND WE WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED! Please look through the blogs. We have articles ranging from planting a fall garden to step-by-step instructions on starting a kid's garden (BTW, the same principle applies to ANYONE who would like to Garden but doesn't know where to start), to raising backyard chickens.
3- Be just a little bit PATIENT AND VERY EXCITED! There is SO much happening with FOOGS right now it is hard to keep up "behind the curtain". We have active investment happening to grow the site, we have active website development happening so we will have the ONLINE MARKETPLACE for people to trade their goods with one another. Think "FARMER'S MARKET MEETS THE INTERNET".
4- SHIRTS AND SWAG - I just got off a video conference regarding shirts and stickers and we should have those VERY SOON. I am being careful to keep costs down, but still source organic, recycled cotton shirts, inline with the mission of this site, so it is taking just a little while longer.
