Also, re: Your comment about buying more compost. One of the coolest things about gardening is not only to show the growth cycle, but also the cycle of food breaking down into basic elements. We started composting in one corner of the yard with a simple aluminum trashcan that we dump about 1/3 third of our 'clean' waste into - fruit skins and rinds that the kids don't eat, egg shells, coffee grounds (including paper filter if you use one - plants LOVE Coffee!!) paper towels - just about anything that is biodegradable and doesn't have chemicals or harmful substances on it. We haven't purchased any compost in a good while and we have WONDERFUL, RICH compost for the garden Its also a GREAT chore for the kids to manage daily. :) Here's a link if you like:
We didn't have enough compost and manure to do the whole area, so we just did half of it. We just wanted to hurry up and get those seeds planted before we lost any more time. We'll finish up the other half of the garden next weekend when we can go buy more compost and manure. Looking forward to watching our pumpkins grow! I'll take photos and share the progress. Don't mind at all if you post on FB.
Great Pics Gabby! I like the "before" and "midway" (I won't call it after until there are crops! :) pictures, and I LOVE the family togetherness!
