Happy Tonics Teaching Gardens

We are growing a Three Sisters Garden at the Monarch Butterfly Habitat in Shell Lake, WI to teach visitors about the importance of organic crops for pollinators. Did you know that butterflies are the second most important pollinators after bees?

Profile Information

What would you like to get out of FOOGS?
Grow a local and organic food movement across the USA. By connecting rural and urban backyard gardeners we can have a healthy alternative means of feeding ourselves. Empower the people to feed themselves instead of relying on a food system controlled by petroleum. If we don't import or transport food, we are establishing a national food model which is "Feed thyself."
What is your age?
56-65
What is your gender
Female
What is your level of experience with backyard gardening?
Been gardening for YEARS
If you currently grow anything, what do you like to grow?
Happy Tonics, Inc. has two teaching gardens through grants: One is a girl scout garden at senior center where the girls grow and learn intergenerationally about pollinators and nutrition and another is at the public library where youth plant and grow veggies, flowers and have a small butterfly garden. We also created a Three Sisters Garden at the Native Wildflower and Butterfly Garden which we created to teach about organic crops and pollinators

This video was produced by Superior Broadcasting. Nick VanderPuy is the reporter. I speak about traveling from Wisconsin to New Mexico and migrating with the monarch butterfly. When we hit Kansas we experienced large Ag concentrated animal feeding lots and learned first hand about how animals are held in deplorable conditions and fed GE or monoculture grain. The meat is processed and sold to grocery stores across the USA.

Instead I choose to eat grass fed beef from local farmers. I know where my meat is coming from, where the animal grazes on grasses and how the animals are treated humanly.
