"Happy I could be of such great help! I think you will really benefit from this. Just be sure to fertilize the bales like they instruct. My farmer friend told me that when they hay or anything composts, the process causes a loss of nitrogen. I needed…"

"Hi Jennifer. You place the straw bales on their sides and you have to water the heck out them for about ten days. They start to compost, but you need to give it time to cool a little so the heat doesn't kill your new plants (that's why you…"
"Thanks for the warm welcome! Actually, the straw bale is something on saw on the internet a year ago and decided I was definitely going to try. I will definitely check out the herbal straw garden you mentioned!"

Thank you so much for the info! We've got really rocky soil here, and no real enclosed yard, so this looks like it solves several problems at once! No rocky digs, no kitty-litter (or dogs trampling my seedlings!), and a ready source of ground cover when the season's done. Not to mention, a little heat source for those times our weather insists on not quite warming up for my poor seeds! Haven't priced the straw here just yet, but $6 is still a little less than the cost of a large bag of organic topsoil, which our poor-soil yard would require. Awesome! Thank you again for the info!
