For Our Own Goods - FOOGS

What the heck is a "FOOGS" and should I be part of it???

Hi everyone!
So I have tried to explain the concept of FOOGS, but in my mind, there are so many possibilities for this concept that I have had a hard time "editing" myself to a very succinct message. Here's the deal: I have had some pretty strong success for one suburban guy raising vegetables and chickens on a small suburban lot and thanks to the interest of my neighbors in trading what they have with me, I came up with the concept of a barter site for neighbors to trade their own goods, not within a 50-100 mile radius, but literally within their own neighborhood. So here's what I want this to be:

An Online Bazaar
A Classroom
A Town Hall
A Recipe Exchange
An Idea Factory
A Support Forum
A Discussion Group
A Book Club
And MUCH, MUCH more.

In short, I want this to be whatever best serves our membership of people who share the ideal that the trade and barter of homegrown, handmade, HYPER-local food and related home items can be more fulfilling than cellophane-wrapped, Genetically-modified, long-distance-shipped foods.

I also know that while this is just starting, I have enough drive, ambition and intention to make this happen. ESPECIALLY since I KNOW from firsthand discussions with MANY MANY people want the same type of connection to their food and community. The ONLY way this can happen is if the people that state their desire and intention become aware of our presence and active in our shared experience.

Regardless of the level of enthusiasm you may have for this, one thing remains completely constant: We ALL want a better world for our kids and future generations. This is my way of contributing to that shared goal. I am REALLY glad you are all here and I can't wait to "co-own" and grow this with you!
