"Hi Camilo!
I am ashamed to admit that I just received your message today (February 5th). I have not logged onto FOOGS in a while.....your message was such a joy to read. Thank you! I am sneaking this in from work so don't have time to chat.…"

I am excited about finding a little spot of land to turn into a beautiful garden with crops that I can offer to others. I am excited about trading goods and I love the sense of community we will have through this website. I look forward to sharing this whole experience with my children in hopes that it will become a way of life. :)
What is your level of experience with backyard gardening?

I just joined today when I received an invite from my friend Ali in Austin. I am just as excited as you are. I am in the Valley for another week and can now say that I have worked both ends of the Rio Grande -- well, the Texas Rio Grande (I was in El Paso for 5 months in '08). I do ecological assessments, mostly on public land on government contracts, but in '05 I did 3 months on private ranches from Kerrville to Van Horn and down to Presidio. Since I started traveling so much, I don't garden like I used to, but my daughter is now ten and between her and the neighbors, I have people who kind of keep my stuff going if I am gone at the wrong time. Last year I spent most of the summer and fall in Central Missouri and it might just be the prettiest place I've ever been. One thing I have done is look for the Farmer's Markets everywhere I go and it has been a real blessing to find that they are really catching on, especially in metropolitan areas where they are needed most. Have you been to Ardovino's Desert Crossing? I recommend it; not that I know that much about El Paso yet, but I would like to return this summer if I can. Luckily, ecological work is catching on, too, even in this economic downturn (too bad there is not enough in Central Texas so I could just stay home. . . ).
I am trying to get my sister who is out near Anthony to join up; she has 2 young daughters who need to eat healthy, but she hasn't responded yet. I know I shouldn't, but I worry about them, because the food in the stores is not near as healthful as when we were growing up.
Like the song says - "Teach your Children" Good luck and God bless y'all.
